U.S. tech businessman John McAfee apparently hanged himself in his cell in jail on Wednesday after Spain’s supreme court upheld his extradition to the United States, his lawyer told Reuters.
Known for his eccentric behavior and videos, McAfee, 75, was a pioneer of antivirus software and was charged in Tennessee with tax evasion charges. He was also charged with cryptocurrency fraud in New York

Spain’s highest court has agreed to extradite McAfee to the United States, according to a court document released Wednesday. The U.S. Department of Justice has confirmed that a 75-year-old U.S. man was found dead in his cell on Wednesday.
Imprisoned in Barcelona for about nine months, McAfee still had a chance to appeal his conviction, but he could not stay in jail longer, said lawyer Javier Villalba.
“This is the result of a cruel system that had no reason to keep this man in prison for so long,” Wilba said.
