State-owned Usmania Glass Sheet Factory Limited (UGSFL) resumed production today after a year of pilot production of one square foot of glass.
Glassmaker Chattogram shut down production on June 23 last year when its reactor was damaged by fire, according to the Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC).

The company repaired the reactor at a cost of 3 ck and heating started in the reactor in mid-June this year.
Once heating begins, the reactor takes a month and a half to start production at the plant, which has the capacity to produce 20 to 22 tons of glass per day.
“After the successful experimental production of a square foot of glass, the company continued its production in full swing as of today,” said Md Al Amin Munshi, Executive Engineer of UGSFL.
In addition to glass production, the company has also taken an initiative to manufacture glass container (bottle) from next year, according to company employees.
