    Mahtab Uddin Ahmed, CEO and CEO of Robi Axiata Ltd, has resigned.

    Mahtab made the revelation on his Facebook, while Robi also confirmed the development in a statement.

    The telecom operator said Mahtab had decided not to renew his contract.

    “His term with Robi will officially end on October 31, 2021, but he decided to leave immediately with permission,” Robi said in a statement today.

    Robi Chief Financial Officer (CFO) M Riyaaz Rasheed, in addition to his current role, will serve as deputy chief executive officer with immediate effect, he added.

    In a Facebook post today, Mahtab said he “decided not to renew my contract with Axiata”.

    Mahtab took over as CEO of Robi, the second largest subscriber telecommunications company, five years ago.

    It is currently in Australia, Mahtab said in the post.

    “Every great journey is over and my glorious journey with Robbie is also over!” – Mahtab said in his post.

    The Daily Star tried to contact Mahtab by phone and sent him a message via WhatsApp. He did not answer.

    Robi Chairman Thayaparan Sangarapillai said: “On behalf of Robi Board, I would like to thank Mahtab for firmly establishing Robi as the leading digital service provider in the country.”

    In his Facebook post, Mahtab said: “Although I am introverted, I believe that my relationship with each of you (Robi family, stakeholders, regulators, Robi customers, etc.) is from the heart or very beyond our professional relationship.

    “While I enjoyed working and being with you in Bangladesh, I have also been away from my family for the past six years. ! “

    Mahtab joined Robi in September 2010 as Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and held the position until 2014.

    He was then appointed Chief Executive Officer from April 2014 to March 2016. Later, he took over the helm of Robi.

    Prior to joining Robi, Mahtab worked at Unilever.

    A graduate of Harvard Business School, Mahtab earned his undergraduate and graduate degrees in accounting from the University of Dhaka.
