PML-N rules out Nawaz Sharif’s return from UK till ‘full recovery’ – News Vibe24

Islamabad: The chairman of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Sehbaz Sharif, has ruled out the return of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif from the United Kingdom to the country until his “full recovery”.
Sehbaz Sharif’s remarks come days after Nawaz Sharif rejected a request for an extension of his visit by the British government.
According to the report, Nawaz’s six-month visit visa had expired, after which he applied to the UK Home Office for an extension for health reasons. The Immigration Department, however, denied the request.
In a statement issued Friday, Shehbaz, the leader of the opposition in the National Assembly, said the Imran government had allowed Nawaz Sharif to leave Pakistan for treatment based on reports from the government’s medical council.
“It is inhumane to take care of the health of a triple prime minister. The government apparatus is aimed at discrediting Nawaz Sharif for his policy, which is gaining a bad name in the country,” Dawn said.
On the return of his older brother to the country, Shehbaz said: “Nawaz Sharif will only return to Pakistan when he is fully recovered and doctors in London allow him to travel (back to the country).” He added that he could legally stay in the United Kingdom until the decision on his appeal regarding the visa extension was made.
In 2018, accountability judge Mohammad Arshad Malik convicted Nawaz of reporting Al-Azizia Steel Mills Company (ASCL) and Hill Metal Establishment (HME) and sentenced him to seven years in prison and fined him $ 1.5 billion and $ 25 million.
In 2019, after doctors told him that Nawaz was suffering from a complicated heart disease and immune system disorder that led to a dangerously low platelet count, his sentence in the Al-Aziziya petition was suspended from a two-member IHC bench. which includes Judge Amir Farooq and Judge Mohsin Akhtar Kayani, for eight weeks for medical reasons, Geo News reported.
Nawaz has been living in London since November 2019 after being allowed to leave the country for medical treatment.
Meanwhile, Pakistani Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid said Nawaz’s passport, a diplomatic passport because he was a former prime minister, had expired on February 16 and that he was “no longer a Pakistani citizen,” Geo News reported.
The interior minister said Nawaz could not travel anywhere with his expired Pakistani passport. “If Nawaz Sharif wants to come to Pakistan, he can get a passport within 24 hours,” he added.
Rashid said the embassy could only issue a passport for his return to Pakistan. He added that Pakistan has been trying to bring Nawaz back for some time but is unable to do so.
However, PML-N spokesman Marriyum Aurangzeb said the UK Home Office had said in its response that Nawaz could appeal the decision with an immigration court, Geo News reported.
He said Nawaz’s lawyers had appealed to the court, which includes his medical records. Marriyum said that until the court rules, the orders of the Ministry of Interior will remain ineffective.
