    Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today presented for the first time the award of the National Sports Council Sheikh Kamal, which marks the 72nd anniversary of the birth of Captain Sahid Sheikh Kamal.

    The Premier actually took part in the awards ceremony as the main guest at the Shaheed Sheikh Kamal Amphitheater at the NSC Tower from its official residence in Ganabhaban here.

    A total of 10 people, including athletes, journalists, organizers and two organizations received the award for their outstanding contribution to the track and field.

    On behalf of the Prime Minister, the Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports Md. Akhter Hossain presented the award to the recipients.

    Each award is accompanied by a Taka 1 lakh, a crown and a certificate.

    Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) President Kazi Salahuddin received the Sheikh Kamal Lifetime Achievement Award.

    Athletes Ruman Sana (archery), Mahfuza Khatun Shila (swimming) and Mabia Akhter Simanta (weightlifting) received the award.

    Emerging athletes Akbar Ali (cricket), Fahad Rahman (chess) and Unnoti Khatun (football) received the award while organizers Monjur Kader (Sheikh Jamal DC) and Kyaw Shwe Hla (karate) received the prestigious award.

    Journalist Mohammad Quamruzzaman also received the award.

    Two organizations – the Bangladesh Cricket Board and the Walton – were also awarded.

    The Minister of State of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Mr. Zahid Ahsan Russel, Member of Parliament, chaired the event, while the Senior Secretary, Mr. Akhter Hossain, addressed the audience.

    A documentary on the life and works of Sheikh Kamal was screened and an illustration of him was also presented at the event.

    Well-known sports organizer and Awami League youth and sports affairs secretary Harunur Rashid and Swadhin Bangla Tanveer football team manager Mazhar Islam Tanna recalled memories with their friend Sheikh Kamal.
