Philippine C-130 military plane crashes; 40 rescued - Times of India
MANILA: An Air Force C-130 aircraft carrying soldiers crashed in a southern province on Sunday after losing runway and at least 40 people on board were rescued, the military chief said.
Chief of Staff General Cirilito Sobejana did not immediately say how many people were on board and whether there were casualties after a collision in a village in the mountain town of Patikul in Sulu province.
The plane was carrying troops from the southern city of Cagayan de Oro, Sobejana said. Government forces have been fighting Abu Sayyaf fighters in the predominantly Muslim province of Sulu for decades.
“It’s very unfortunate,” Sobejana told reporters. “The plane lost runway and was trying to regain power, but failed and crashed.”
Sobejana said at least 40 people on board were taken to hospital and troops were trying to save the rest.
