Palestinian teen shot by Israeli troops in West Bank dies - Times of India
JERUSALEM: The Palestinian Ministry of Health said on Thursday that a Palestinian teenager who had been shot by Israeli troops in the West Bank a day earlier had died from his injuries.
The Israeli military said Wednesday that a soldier parked near a wild cat settlement near the West Bank city of Nablus saw a group of Palestinians approaching and “threw a suspicious object, which exploded next to the soldier.” The army said the soldier fired into the air and then shot the Palestinian who dropped the object.
The Palestinian Ministry of Health says 15-year-old Ahmad Shamsa died of gunshot wounds a day earlier.
Earlier Wednesday, an Israeli soldier shot and killed a Palestinian woman he said he had tried to park in a group of soldiers guarding a West Bank construction site.
In a statement, the military said soldiers shot the woman in Hezme, just north of Jerusalem, after she got out of a car and pulled out a knife. The statement did not say how close the woman was to the soldiers and the military did not publish photos or videos of the incident.
In recent years, Israel has seen a series of shootings, stabbings and car attacks against Israeli soldiers and civilians in the West Bank. Most have been carried out by Palestinians with no apparent links to organized militant groups.
Palestinian and Israeli human rights groups say the military often uses excessive force and could stop the attackers without killing them. In some cases, they say innocent people have been identified as assailants and shot.
The Palestinians are seeking the West Bank, where the Palestinian Authority has limited sovereignty as part of a future state along with the Gaza Strip and East Jerusalem. Israel says Jerusalem is indivisible. Peace talks have been delayed for many years.
