Nine Russian coronavirus patients die after oxygen supply malfunctions - Times of India
MOSCOW: Nine coronavirus patients have died in a Russian hospital in the southern city of Vladikavkaz after an oxygen tube burst underground, reducing the supply to an intensive care unit, Russian news agencies reported on Monday.
“Nine coronavirus patients have died from lack of oxygen,” the local health ministry told TASS.
“A total of 71 people were in intensive care, not all of whom received oxygen,” the TASS ministry said.
Regional authorities have agreed with the Ministry of Defense to supply oxygen to all hospitals in the city from the town of Mozdok, about 80 kilometers north of Vladikavkaz, the RIA reported.
“There was an explosion in the oxygen pipe from the tank, which is underground, and the oxygen supply was stopped,” said the official head of the North Ossetia region, where Vladikavkaz is located, from the RIA news agency.
“Medical personnel have begun to connect patients in ventilators with oxygen tanks. Oxygen tanks have begun to arrive,” said North Ossetia Deputy Chief Sergei Meniailo.
