NEW YORK: Macy’s traditional July 4 fireworks display will return to New York this year following a forced pandemic change in celebration in 2020, Mayor Bill de Blasio said on Thursday.
“This is truly wonderful, a huge sign of the New York renaissance,” de Blasio said in a virtual statement.
The fireworks will start from five barges on the East River starting at 9:25 p.m. on July 4, said Will Coss, the show’s executive producer.
The show will air live on NBC as part of a two-hour special with Black Pumas, Coldplay, OneRepublic and Reba McEntire, according to Macy’s and NBC officials.
The big show was replaced by several small, surprise fireworks displays last year to avoid crowd gatherings during the Covid-19 pandemic.
De Blasio said there will be dedicated areas for fully vaccinated people to enjoy this year’s show, as well as other areas for people who have not been vaccinated or who want to participate with people who have not been vaccinated.
