    Labour ministry forms panel to investigate Hashem Foods’ fire incident

    The Ministry of Labor today set up a six-member committee to find out the causes of death and injury of workers in the fire at the Hashem Foods factory in Rupganj in Narayanganj on July 8.

    The commission will be chaired by Humayun Kabir, the deputy secretary of labor, the ministry said in a statement.

    “The committee will also work to find out where the fire came from and who is responsible for it,” Professor Rezaul Haque, the ministry’s additional secretary, told the Daily Star.

    The committee will submit its inquiry to the authorities concerned within the next 10 days, according to the statement.

    About 52 workers died in the devastating fire at Hashem Foods Ltd, which was involved in the production of various processed foods, such as fruit drinks and biscuits.
