    Three people, including a police officer, were injured and a suspect was killed in a shooting related to reported domestic unrest in Indianapolis, authorities said.
    Officers were called to an apartment on the northeastern side of the city around 9 a.m. Wednesday and tried to contact those inside. As they checked outside, police said the suspect fired at the officers, hitting one in the leg.
    According to the police, the policeman remains in a stable condition.
    A SWAT team responded and went inside, where they found a girl and a woman with gunshot wounds compatible with gunshot wounds. They were taken to hospitals, where they were in critical condition.
    The suspect was found with an obvious self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said. He was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Three other young people in the apartment came out safely.
    “Officers, when they receive such calls of domestic violence, are the most dangerous and uncertain type of call a police officer can receive,” Assistant Chief of Police Chris Bailey told reporters. “You also have to think and wrap our arms around the children who managed to escape. They are injured.”
    No officers fired their weapons during the response, police said. Additional information is expected later Thursday.
    In a statement, Mayor Joe Hoggset said he was grateful to hear that the officer was in stable condition.
    “My thoughts are with the officer and his family, as well as with all the brave IMPD officers who tend to take risks to keep our community safe,” he said. “We must do everything we can to stop the scourge of gun violence, develop resources and unite our neighbors to stop this vicious circle.”
