“I am incredibly happy to be at Manchester City. City are the best team in the country with a coach who is considered the best in the world – it is a dream come true to be a member of this club,” said Grealish, 25. www.mancity.com.
The paycheck broke the previous British record of 89 89 million paid by Manchester United to acquire Paul Pogba from Juventus in 2016.
“In the last 10 seasons, City have consistently won big trophies. Pep Guardiola who came here has taken them to the next level and the football that this team plays is the most exciting in Europe.
“Playing for Pep and learning from him will be special and something that every top footballer would like.
“The facilities are amazing and I sincerely look forward to getting started, meeting everyone and playing.”
City reportedly activated a clause in Grealish’s contract that forced Villa to accept their offer when it reached 100 100 million.
Grealish returned from a holiday in Dubrovnik earlier this week and resumed training while City decided on the deal.
After graduating from Villa’s youth academy, Grealish spent his entire career at the club he supported as a child, except during his loan spell at Notts County in the 2013-14 season.
He has made 213 appearances for Villa since his debut in 2014, scoring 32 goals and 43 assists.
Grealish, who had four years on his contract with Villa, scored six times in the league last season and provided 10 assists.
He has never played in the Champions League and joining City gives him the opportunity to showcase his talents at the highest level.
Villa’s four appearances for England during their run to the Euro 2020 final last month provided a picture of the quality that persuaded City manager Pep Guardiola to make his move.
The deal is an important statement of City’s intentions for the new season.
Grealish’s ability to win open defenses will give Guardiola another weapon as City look to defend their Premier League title.
Guardiola already has Grealish England team-mates Phil Foden and Raheem Sterling in creative attacking roles, with Kevin De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva and Riyad Mahrez embarrassing the City manager in the final third.
City face Leicester at the Community Shield at Wembley on Saturday before launching their Premier League campaign against Tottenham on 15 August.
Man City football director Txiki Begiristain hailed Grealish as “an incredible talent”.
“Jack’s evolution in recent seasons for both the club and the country has been clear to everyone. His natural talent and commitment to improving as a player have made him one of the most exciting attacking players in world football. today.
“I’m sure the fans will love to see him in our team. Pep loves the way he plays and we all feel he is ideal for Manchester City.”
“Our style and his style match perfectly. I’m excited to watch him in the years to come.”
Grealish admitted that it was not an easy decision to leave his children’s team in Birmingham.
“Obviously it was obviously a difficult month because I was a Aston Villa fan for the rest of my life,” he added.
“But when I talked to the coach here and you see what kind of players they have here, in the end it was something I could not say no to. I am absolutely happy to be here.”
