China evacuates nationals from Afghanistan amid US pullout - Times of India
BEIJING: China has sent a flight to bring home 210 Afghan nationals, state media reported on Friday as the U.S. military prepares to leave the country and the security situation is growing.
The Global Times, published by the ruling Communist Party, reported that the Xiamen Airlines flight departed from the capital Kabul on July 2 and landed in the central province of Hubei. The airline confirmed the report in a post on its Twitter account similar to Twitter, but did not provide further details.
The Global Times and other reports reported that 22 of them were positive for COVID-19, although these numbers did not appear in the National Health Committee’s daily report of new cases.
US forces are due to leave Afghanistan by August 31 after nearly 20 years of fighting with the Taliban.
Chinese companies have invested in mining and infrastructure in Afghanistan, but these assets are increasingly at risk as the Taliban occupy large amounts of land, possibly putting Kabul in jeopardy.
