CDC endorses vaccines for pregnant women - Times of India
U.S. federal health officials have bolstered their recommendation that pregnant women be vaccinated against Covid-19, citing new safety data that found no increased risk of miscarriage among those who were immunized during the first 20 weeks of pregnancy. Previous research has found similar reassuring evidence for those who were vaccinated later in pregnancy.
Until now, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said vaccines could be offered during pregnancy. The recent update of the guidelines reinforces formal advice, urging pregnant women to get vaccinated. The new directive aligns the CDC with recommendations from the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and other medical teams. “Currently, the benefits of vaccination and the known risks of Covid during pregnancy and the high transmission rates at this time outweigh the theoretical risks of the vaccine,” said Sascha R Ellington, an epidemiologist in the Department of Reproductive Health at CDC.
