The Bangladeshi Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has called on global garment buyers to designate more shipping vessels and docks to facilitate the timely delivery of export containers.
BGMEA President Faruque Hassan made the call during a meeting with representatives of the world-renowned brand C&A Sourcing International Ltd and leading shipping company Hapag-Lloyd at the BGMEA office in Dhaka on 12 August.

The discussion was part of BGMEA’s ongoing efforts to ensure the smooth shipment of export and import goods, the union said in a statement.
Hassan also said that the export containers loaded with RMG products had to face additional delays in the Chattogram port due to the appointment of select shipping lines and shipments by buyers.
He also said buyers should make the most of the capacity of available shipping lines to handle garment exports, which will increase in the coming months.
Earlier, BGMEA wrote a letter asking global clothing buyers through the Buyers Forum, a group of representatives of major clothing buyers, to nominate as many shippers as possible to deliver the shipment on time, the BGMEA said in a statement.
