Benjamin Netanyahu vacates prime minister's residence in Jerusalem - Times of India
JERUSALEM: Benjamin Netanyahu and his family left the official residence of the Israeli Prime Minister early Sunday, almost a month after the ousting of the official with the formation of an alternative government.
A family spokesman confirmed that Netanyahu had left his home on Balfour Street in Jerusalem shortly after midnight, according to a deadline agreed last month with the recently inaugurated Prime Minister Naftali Bennett.
Balfour’s residence had become a symbol of the Netanyahu scandals and was the scene of weekly anti-Netanyahu protests for much of last year. The protesters called on the then Prime Minister to resign while he is on trial for corruption. Netanyahu denied any wrongdoing and refused to resign.
Netanyahu was Israel’s longest-serving prime minister, serving for the past 12 years and for a time in the 1990s, and has held the post since 2009.
Bennett has not yet announced a move date to the residence.
